My town has a sad little lake. I’ve only lived here a short time and there hasn’t been a lake at all, but it is expected within a matter of months. The most exciting part, for me, is when it is back, it’s within a block from my home.
Once the center point of town, the original earthen dam collapsed when a storm brought heavy rains in 2003. A new dam was built in 2008. The town’s people were so excited! They had their lake back. It was especially enjoyed by the homeowners that live right on the lake and have piers. In it’s heyday, they enjoyed swimming , boating and skiing, as well as the annual 4th of July Fireworks which were set off on the dam.
Sadly, in 2010 the lake drained because of a sink hole under the dam that had been replaced. Engineers and Construction companies were once again put to work but this time declaring that the job would be done correctly this time.
Luckily, for the town, the town was able to sue the engineers and construction companies and recoup some of the expense so that it wouldn’t just be paid by the town’s people.
When it does reopen in a few months, it will have a new pier, a snack bar, and play ground, and a small beach area.I’m sure I’ll be cooling off there on hot summer days, and I will be up front for the fireworks on the 4th of July.
One of the nicest girls I know is a singer and songwriter and has a Facebook page where she actually writes about personal stuff going on in her life. This is different than most singers and songwriters because a lot of them have hired public relations people and street teams who run the web sites and Facebook pages on behalf of the performer. But she writes the stuff herself and I admire her openness and honesty.
Today she was a little distraught and wrote about how she had just been attacked on her web site by someone who was very nasty to her. She certainly did not deserve to get such a scathing comment from someone who doesn’t even really know her. She posted on Facebook that she was struggling on how to handle it. Everyone told her to ignore it, take the high road, blah blah blah. I told her to not ignore it but to not say anything that would make her look bad. Just thank her for writing and not respond to anything else. That will frustrate the bitch and not give her any ammo for retaliation. The bitch was probably just a troll anyway. If you don’t give a troll any attention, they get bored and go away.
Did you know that it is against the law in some countries to buy or sell Barbie dolls? I thought that was the craziest thing. Evidently in those countries, the Barbie doll is seen as a threat to raising little girls in a modest and wholesome manner. So, the government over there has officially approved a state made doll that dresses modestly.
That just pisses me off on so many levels. For one thing, who the fuck is the government to tell me what I can play with for toys? Toys are for using your imagination, not for indoctrination. And second, who the fuck is the government to decide how the girls must dress?
This is all bullshit to me and I hope they don’t ever try to pull that shit on us over here, because I can promise you today’s girls and women won’t let that shit fly.
For my mom’s birthday I wanted to get her tickets to a dinner theater. She loves to go to dinner theaters and it should be pretty easy to order a gift card for a show of her choice to go when she wants to use the gift card and make her reservations for the show of her choice.
I went online and tried to find dinner theaters in her area, but only found two clubs that are still open. I wonder what happened to all the other dinner theaters that we used to go to? I hate to think that they went out of business because no one was going to the shows!
Well, I found one that is not too far from my mom’s house and went to order the gift cards online. I know that my mom, being older and not like to be out late at night, would want to go to the Sunday matinee, which is $10 cheaper per ticker than the popular Friday night or Saturday night shows. But this site had gifts cards only in the amount for a Friday night or Saturday night show. If you bought the gift card and used it for a Sunday matinee, you lose $10 on each ticket. That sucks!
I was going to buy 4 tickets for her so she could invite some friends and have a nice dinner and show out one weekend. But I’m not going to waste $40 on those tickets. What a stupid policy to only sell gift cards for the most expensive shows. They just lost out on the four tickets that I was going to buy. I’ll find something else to give her for a gift.
I am fucking craving Mexican food lately. I think the closer it gets to Cinco De Mayo, my body somehow knows. I always go to my favorite Authentic Mexican restaurant on that day to celebrate. No damned Taco Bell for me. I want a real Margarita and nacho’s, as well as my favorite entree’. I have a couple of things I really like but my all time favorite is Chimmichanga’s. They are so delicious, I can’t get enough of them. I usually go with my best friend and her mom each year. It is almost becoming a tradition with us.
Don’t ask me why I like to celebrate this particular holiday when I am not remotely Mexican, but I suppose it is just something fun to do like St Patty’s Day. Besides, I don’t eat Mexican food often and this gives me a reason to enjoy it. I think I should probably make reservations, because I know it will be packed just like it is every year on this day. Last year we forgot to make them and had to wait for two hours to get a table. That is not going to happen this year, that much I promise you.
