So I have been planning all year to expand my outdoor activities, after spending the past few years mostly indoors, I have really made plans (and some efforts) to get outdoors more. This has not been as easy the past year it seems, but the planning phase has been easy. My first few attempts at doing some real outdoor activities were stifled by lack of proper equipment and planning, so I intend to change that.
I remember the good old days when going out to play was just that, you went outside, and simply found things to do. These days it seems the weather is so unpredictable and extreme that it’s not so easy. It also appears the special clothing and protection is more necessary these days – things I never thought about years ago like dehydration, wind burn, west nile virus, things need to be done to minimize the risks out there! OF course there is the air quality alerts that basically say breathing heavy outside on most days is really bad for the lungs – which kind of defeats the whole purpose of going outside anyways.
So I have been slowly planning for enjoying the outdoors with some basic essentials, new boots, a cheap bow, some warmer clothes. I even got a fanny pack for a water carrier. I am so looking forward to playing with some new outdoor toys this winter. Now if I can find the right combination of things to defeat wind burned cheeks I think this winter will be fun instead of miserable SAD (seasonal disorder). Fingers crossed, new toys is my motivation – lets hope it works!
Did you know that it is against the law in some countries to buy or sell Barbie dolls? I thought that was the craziest thing. Evidently in those countries, the Barbie doll is seen as a threat to raising little girls in a modest and wholesome manner. So, the government over there has officially approved a state made doll that dresses modestly.
That just pisses me off on so many levels. For one thing, who the fuck is the government to tell me what I can play with for toys? Toys are for using your imagination, not for indoctrination. And second, who the fuck is the government to decide how the girls must dress?
This is all bullshit to me and I hope they don’t ever try to pull that shit on us over here, because I can promise you today’s girls and women won’t let that shit fly.
When I go to my sister’s house I pass a little shopping center that has a new sub sandwich shop in it. I have never heard of that brand before. It’s called Firehouse Subs. Have you ever tried one?
Most of the time around here I go to Subway when I want a sub, and if I am in a part of town around lunch time that has a Quizno’s, then I will go get a Quizno’s sub just to be different from the usual Subway subs.
I wonder what is so different about Firehouse Subs that they have a whole chain of those sub sandwich restaurants? I mean, a sub is basically a roll with meat and your choice of vegetables on top. There are only so many ways you can change up the basic sub ingredients.
For my mom’s birthday I wanted to get her tickets to a dinner theater. She loves to go to dinner theaters and it should be pretty easy to order a gift card for a show of her choice to go when she wants to use the gift card and make her reservations for the show of her choice.
I went online and tried to find dinner theaters in her area, but only found two clubs that are still open. I wonder what happened to all the other dinner theaters that we used to go to? I hate to think that they went out of business because no one was going to the shows!
Well, I found one that is not too far from my mom’s house and went to order the gift cards online. I know that my mom, being older and not like to be out late at night, would want to go to the Sunday matinee, which is $10 cheaper per ticker than the popular Friday night or Saturday night shows. But this site had gifts cards only in the amount for a Friday night or Saturday night show. If you bought the gift card and used it for a Sunday matinee, you lose $10 on each ticket. That sucks!
I was going to buy 4 tickets for her so she could invite some friends and have a nice dinner and show out one weekend. But I’m not going to waste $40 on those tickets. What a stupid policy to only sell gift cards for the most expensive shows. They just lost out on the four tickets that I was going to buy. I’ll find something else to give her for a gift.
There are free blogs on different web site services, which I always thought would be a good way to get started blogging. Some of the sites have ads on them, but most are pretty good for beginners to learn. You can get a free blog and try it out for a couple of months. If you don’t like blogging you can quit and you haven’t lost anything but your time to write the posts. There are free blogs on Google and on WordPress.com, as well as several other well known sites.
But when I started looking at the free blog sites and reading their terms of service and content policies, I was shocked to see how restrictive the free sites are. You cannot use them to make money or promote anything. You also cannot write about certain things or post pictures or the site will take down your blog and ban you. That sucks!
I guess the best thing to do is pony up the $10 to buy your own domain name and then host it somewhere cheap. Maybe if you had to spay money for it you will appreciate it a little more and make a bigger effort to keep writing the blog instead of so easily walking away from it when it is free.
